BMV – PERMIT PROCEDURES

AS OF DEC 2008 – PERMITS BECAME PLASTIC PICTURE ID ONLY – THESE WILL BE ISSUED AFTER STUDENT PASSED THE WRITTEN EXAM TAKEN AT ANY LOCAL OHIO DRIVER EXAM STATION.

BMV – ROAD TEST

You schedule the BMV ROAD TEST: call local driver examination station or schedule online at www.ohiodrivingtest.com

ITEMS NEEDED TO SCHEDULE BMV APPOINTMENT:

PERMIT LICENSE NUMBER, DATE OF BIRTH, SS#, CONTACT PHONE NUMBER

ITEMS NEEDED FOR BMV APPOINTMENT: Arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes before scheduled appointment to check in.

A vehicle which will pass BMV safety inspection; they will ask for description (color, make, model) and license plate number & VALID PERMIT

BMV – ROAD TEST For license applicants under age 18 - Driver training certificate of completion, & notarized 50 hour affidavit. All applicants under 18 years of age who wish to apply for an Ohio driver’s license must hold a temporary permit for at least 6 months and complete driver’s education before they are eligible to take the driving test. If you do not meet both of these requirements, you cannot schedule your appointment.

PERMITS ARE GOOD FOR ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF ISSUE.

ONCE YOU PASS BMV ROAD TEST – GO TO LICENSING STATION FOR DRIVER’s LICENSE

IF PERMIT HOLDER IS UNDER AGE 18 NEED PARENT/GUARDIAN TO SIGN FORMS.

IF UNABLE TO GET LICENSE SAME DAY AS PASSING ROAD TEST – PERMIT DRIVING RESTRICTIONS STILL APPLY.

QCDT – BEGINNER DRIVER TRAINING COURSE: (BDTC)

We will do everything we can to ensure that your teen gets through the beginner driver training course (BDTC) as quickly and efficiently as we can. There are some things that you can do to help us help you get through.

First of all, when you schedule lessons - WRITE IT DOWN. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure your child has transportation to and from all lessons, driving and classroom. Arrive at least 5-10 minutes before start time. And picked up within 5-10 minutes of the scheduled finish time.

If student is late for classroom lesson, they may not be admitted in class lesson – they will have to go home and come back to make up the entire classroom lesson with same information – this includes to and from break times. (no fee charged)

If student misses a driving appointment, you will pay a drive cancellation fee per missed driving appointment.

The following are some reasons your student may be charged a drive cancellation fee: No permit; not having valid permit; late arrivals; wearing flip-flops; not physically or mentally fit to drive, (impaired). BTW drive lesson guidelines are discussed with students during classroom lessons.

We understand that things sometimes come up and it is necessary to change or to reschedule an appointment. We ask for at least 48 hour notice to do so. That will give us time to schedule someone else in that slot. ANY NOTICE IS BETTER THAN NO NOTICE: To be guaranteed not to be charged a drive cancellation fee we require a 24 hour notice. Just think if the guy in front of you would have cancelled earlier, then we could have called you to take that slot and your child could have been through earlier. We ask that you give the same consideration.
