Information about becoming a driving instructor.

Requirements:

Current OHIO driver’s license.

Valid driver’s license for previous 5 years.

Pass a criminal background check (BCI report required – within 60 days of apply to state to be instructor)

Good driving record (Driving abstract required – within 60 days of applying to state to be instructor)

Pass a health physical (required)

Participate in a 40+ hr training course; provided by the driving school. (see training for more information)

Take a written driver’s exam (pass with a score of 75 or better)

Take a state driving exam (pass with a score of 75 or better)

Access to the internet and/or email - Preferred but not mandatory

The position(s) average between 5 and 25 hours per week. 

Schedules are flexible with evening and/or weekend hours available and daytime hours when/if possible (summer/other school breaks).

FYI: on schedules – our busy time is when teens are not in high school activities.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The position of Driving Instructor consists of teaching students primarily between the ages of 15 ˝ to 18. Candidate must be patient and have a good rapport with people. An outgoing personality and the ability to get along well and relate to teens is a plus!  A neat and clean appearance and a pleasant personality is a must!! Must be able to speak clearly and concisely. This successful candidate needs to work with little or no supervision.  This position requires candidate to be able to handle money.

 

THE JOB is two parts: training will consist of learning both parts of the driving instructor job.

Few instructors do both part of instruction. Some instructors prefer one part over the other.

Behind the Wheel Driving Instructor.  Lessons will be in a company provided vehicle and will be a one-on-one environment, most of the time.  Must be able to speak clearly and concisely.  With student age 15 year and 6 months and older. (occasionally we get an adult with a permit that wants some driving instruction)

Classroom Instructor consists of teaching classroom materials to students primarily between the ages of 15˝ to 18 years of age.  Must be able to speak and read well in front of others and have a working knowledge of computers, or able to learn. 

 

TRAINING: (this is not a quick process to complete the 40+ hours may take a month or more to complete all stages).

First stage is to observe as a student and do self study.

Second stage of training is more self study and be a student teacher – with instructors and or training manager assisting you.

Third stage is two parts: classroom and behind the wheel. – You are the teacher being observed by TM for evaluation.

When training at the driving school is completed then instructor candidate must PASS the states written driver’s exam & state driving exam.

Once all is completed then candidates application is submitted to State of Ohio for certification (Department of Public Safety).

 

Training does not guarantee certification or a job position with this school.
